UofN College of Communication

The College of Communication is part of YWAM's non-formal University of the Nations. It exists to raise up a reformed generation of qualified communicators worldwide who purpose to do high quality work with integrity and sensitivity, and who seek to influence the media industry towards the knowledge of God. The college runs 3-month intensive courses and seminars all over the world in subjects as diverse as fine art, design, photography, video and film production, journalism, writing, and communication principles.  All courses below are offered in English unless otherwise indicated.

School of Digital Filmmaking & Internship 5 August - 29 October
YWAM Brisbane, Australia
The school is dedicated to equipping students spiritually and professionally to effectively create films that will exemplify Christian values. Students gain a Christian perspective of the film industry in the digital age. After this three-month school students will be able to direct and produce short fictional stories and have an overall understanding of the creation, production and distribution process of films in the independent and mainstream markets. Topics taught include: directing, producing, screenwriting, digital and film camera operation, lighting for film & video, digital sound, computerized editing, working with actors, and other technical aspects of filmmaking. The development of the character of the future filmmaker as well as skills training is an integral part of the course. Understanding and overcoming pride and greed in ourselves and others is part of the practical application of the course.

School of Radio Broadcasting & Internship 21 September - 17 December
YWAM Media Village, Jos, Nigeria
Students discover the use of radio as an effective means of communication. Hands-on experience in radio production includes learning how to produce music programs, news, advertising, and talk radio. Other subjects covered include audio control, formats, sports, public service, management, and international broadcasting.

Video Impact School & Internship 27 September - 17 December
By design, this is a hands on practical application school. It has been designed to help equip individuals with the necessary tools to craft quality motion pictures of all kinds on little or no budget in small development teams of 1-4 people. Throughout the school, we will be learning and implementing "guerilla film" techniques and putting into practice, designing and creating our own short films.

School of Digital Communication & Internship 27 September - 18 December
YWAM Burtigny (Geneva) Switzerland
This school trains students in numerous software programs relating to the following major categories of digital communication: print (digital photo editing and graphic art and illustration), 3-D graphics, motion and video graphics, digital video and web design. Students work individually or with a team on a multi-media project as an integrating final assignment. By the end of the course, the student has a basic working knowledge of the main programs used today in this aspect of the communication industry, as well as a better knowledge of design. Emphases vary according to location where the course is offered.

Intro to Communication and Design 27 September -0 16 December
YWAM Lausanne, Switzerland
The student will learn basic principles of content creation, design, and marketing as well as different software programs, such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Premiere/Final Cut Pro, and web development tools. The student also will learn how to prayerfully approach a project and process their ideas from thought, to paper, to end product.

School of Web Design & Communication & Internship 29 September - 14 December
YWAM Harpenden, England
The School of Web Design and Communications will teach students to impliment web communications from the initial setup of a web site address to designing, publishing and maintaining a web site. The school will also cover other forms of web technology that can assist in communications.

School of Design 30 November - 18 February
Jeju, South Korea

An entry-level school introducing the individual to the world of designing and communication. The course focuses on understanding the history and working principles of creating good design. An introduction in the following areas will be offered: elements of godly communication; advertising and design; layout, color, form and function; designing for print and screen; media strategies. The school will assist each student in recognizing and creating good design for a wide range of media applications. The student also will be exposed to how the design industry works, and how they may best function within it, and how their design skills can be used in fulltime missions.
